Mushtaque rushed to Saanchi. She was yelling in pain. Nihaar tried to comfort her, but Mushtaque came, pulled Saanchi gently from Nihaar’s arm and carried her to the nearest bed. Saanchi looked like a little girl in Mushtaque’s broad arms. Nihaar looked at the sight with pain in his eyes. Seeing Saanchi in pain was not easy for him. He called up his family doctor immediately. Saanchi was still crying hysterically. Mushtaque tried to calm her down. Nirali was flabbergasted. For some time, she stood there like a statue trying to figure out what was happening. She then tried her best to handle the situation. She went to Saanchi, sat beside her, and tried to comfort her. She rubbed the palms of Saanchi’s hands, while Mushtaque brushed Saanchi’s hair gently with his hands.
The doctor arrived in some time. He checked Saanchi’s leg. It was bad. It would take time to heal. The doctor looked at Mushtaque and said, ‘An X-ray is required, however, taking her to the hospital will be difficult. At this point, she can wear a cast. You will get it in the medical store nearby. I will write some medicines. That will reduce the pain and inflammation. All the same, seeing her condition, I feel, she needs anxiety relief medication too. She is stressed. I will write the medicines. Give her one tablet now and one after dinner. She needs to get some rest. Here is the prescription.’ Nihaar took the prescription from the doctor and rushed to the pharmacy nearby.
After the doctor left, Nirali told Mushtaque, ‘I am at loss of words. I don’t know what to say here. But, I think you guys should stay back till Saanchi feels better. And please don’t worry about the bills.’ Saanchi was in pain. She was hysterical. She kept on mumbling, ‘Let me go from here. Let me go please….’. Mushtaque could not see his Saanchi in this condition. Nonetheless, Saanchi can’t travel now. Also, Mushtaque knew Saanchi wouldn’t lie. There was something in this house which was troubling her. Mushtaque had to solve this mystery.
Nihaar came with the packet of medicines. He asked Sarita to get some water. He then took one tablet and was about to give it to Saanchi, when Mushtaque held Nihaar’s hand gently and said, ‘Thanks a lot Nihaar, but I will have to get a second opinion from Saanchi’s doctor as well. Don’t get me wrong, but, Saanchi is allergic to some medicines, and, since, she is not in a condition to tell us, I will have to check with her doctor.’ Before Nihaar could say anything, Nirali looked at Mushtaque and said, ‘You are right. Allergies can be lethal. Please check once with her doctor before giving her the medicines.’ Nirali then told Sarita and Suresh, ‘You guys will stay here tonight and till Saanchi recovers completely. Please check if there is enough grocery.’
Mushtaque sent a picture of Saanchi’s prescription to Saanchi’s family doctor and then called him. The doctor checked the medicines and told Mushtaque that they were all okay. Saanchi could have those. After talking to the doctor, Mushtaque went near Saanchi. Nirali was there. Mushtaque poured some water in a glass, while Nirali helped Saanchi sit up. Saanchi was still in a state of shock, mumbling something. Nihaar kept on looking at Saanchi. Mushtaque helped Saanchi gulp a tablet and put her to sleep.
Shubhangi went to Naresh Sharma with a cup of tea in her hand. She fixed her veil, put the tea cup on the table right in front of Naresh Sharma and said with a trembling voice, ‘The guests in our service apartment are leaving today. Nirali and Nihaar have gone there to complete the check out formalities.’ Naresh Sharma looked at Shubhangi with questions in his eyes and said, ‘Did Nihaar and Nirali tell you why the guests were leaving?’ Shubhangi said with petrified eyes, ‘No. But, Naina had said, apparently the guests have some work and hence they were leaving.’ Naresh Sharma took of his glasses, rubbed his forehead with deep concern and said, ‘Hope, this is the only reason they are leaving.’ Shubhangi nodded and said, ‘I hope so too.’
Mushtaque looked at Nihaar and Nirali and said, ‘Thanks for all the help, but, I think you guys should go home and get some rest. I will tell Sarita and Suresh if we need anything.’ Nihaar looked at sleeping Saanchi. He wanted to stay back but he knew he can’t. Nirali said with concern, ‘Yeah, right… we should leave now. You need to rest too. We will take your leave now. Call us if you need anything.’ Mushtaque nodded.
At around 9:00 p.m., Saanchi woke up. Mushtaque was beside her through out. Saanchi looked at Mushtaque with sleepy eyes and said, ‘Can we go away from this place now?’ Mushtaque was someone who barely cried. Seeing Saanchi in this condition, he could not control his tears. He hugged her tight. Tears welled up in his eyes. His eyes were blood shot red. Saanchi said weakly, ‘I am fine. But, can we go from here?’. Mushtaque said , ‘We will go.’ In his mind, Mushtaque told himself, ‘Not before, I find out who is doing this to you Saanchi?’
The clock struck 3:00 a.m. Saanchi was given sedatives. She was fast asleep. Mushtaque was wide awake. Suddenly, Mushtaque heard jingling of anklets. He thought it was Sarita. But, Sarita had no reason to come to this room in the middle of the night. Mushtaque went out to see from where the sound came. The sound came closer and closer. Mushtaque could smell a piercing stench. Yes, the stench was that of rotten meat. The windows of the room swung open. The curtains flew in the strong breeze. Suddenly Saanchi sat up. Her eyes were smeared in kohl. She had a big red bindi on her forehead. Her hair was in a mess. She cackled and said with a hoarse voice , ‘LEAVE THIS GIRL AND GO FROM HERE. SHE BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE. GO AWAY BEFORE I KILL HER.’ Mushtaque stood there bewildered. He looked at Saanchi and said, ‘What’s this Saanchi? Why are you behaving this way?’ Saanchi cackled and said, ‘GO AWAY. THERE IS SOMEONE WHO LOVES HER A LOT. GO AWAY BEFORE I KILL HER.’ Mushtaque called out Suresh and Sarita loudly. They came running. When Suresh and Sarita saw the sight, they were dumbfounded. Sarita froze there. Suresh stood there watching Saanchi without blinking even once. He was so scared that he ran away from that room. Mushtaque was about to go near Saanchi, when Sarita whispered trembling, ‘Don’t go near her Sir.’ Mushtaque replied, ‘I have to go near my Saanchi.’ Sarita said shivering, ‘She is not ‘your’ ‘Saanchi’ Sir. She is someone else. D…d….don’t go near her.’ Sarita held Mushtaque’s hand and pleaded, ‘P….please Sir…. don’t go.’
It was a secluded room, dark to the core. The door was locked. The voice told the spirit, ‘Thank you. I know you would do anything for me. After all……….nevermind……. now, please send this Mushtaque away. However, he looks like a stubborn soul deeply in love with Saanchi. So, sending him away will be difficult. So…..kill him.’ Saying that the voice sighed and said, ‘Yes, I need Saanchi. Kill Mushtaque. He does not deserve her.’
