Arun did not know what to do. He was scared. His mom had died. The last rites were performed. Yet, now, his mom was right in front of him. As a child, all he knew was, people who die, never come back. How can he then see Anita? The spirit came closer to Arun and said, ‘ Son, don’t be scared. I am here to see you. With so many enemies around you, my soul can never rest in peace till I am assured that you don’t have any enemies around you.’ Little Arun could not understand anything his mom’s spirit told him. He cried madly and said, ‘Why did you leave me maa? Come back to me maa, come back please.’ The spirit said, ‘ Listen to me carefully Arun. I will never leave your side till my soul rests in peace. I will have to wait till you grow up. Once you grow up and the right time comes, you will have to do something for me. Till then, I will always be with you. I will not let any ill befall on you. I love you my son.’ Arun ran towards the spirit to hug it, but the spirit faded away. Arun stood there crying ‘Maa, come back…. come back Maa’, when his nanny came and said, ‘ Your maa is no more Arun. Henceforth I am your maa.’ Arun pushed the nanny and said, ‘You can never be my maa.’ The nanny hugged Arun and said, ‘You are too young to understand this baby. Shhhh, don’t cry.’ Arun fought to get out of the nanny’s grip and ran away from the room.
The nanny smiled to herself and said, ‘ All that happens, happens for good. I am sick and tired of being a nanny. Coast is clear. I am all set to become Mrs. Sulochana Sukumar Malhotra.’
Meanwhile, the investigation for Jagmohan’s death was still going on. It was not through police. Kasturi wanted to get to the root of it and hence she had hired detectives for the case. She wanted to know all about Jagmohan’s death. Who was behind it? Just when she was thinking about it, one of the key investigators of the case called up Kasturi. Kasturi said over the phone, ‘What evidence?’ The voice at the other end said, ‘ As per all the evidence, we have come to know that the person who killed Jagmohan Virani was a chain smoker. We will call you in some time. We already know who the person is. We will confirm and call you back.’ Kasturi was astounded. Chain smoker? Kasturi was at her wit’s end. Who is a chain smoker here?
Just then, the detective called Kasturi again. Kasturi listened to him wide eyed. He would never lie.What she heard from him was a bolt from the blue. How can it be true? But, it was true. Kasturi sat down bewildered. The detectives found out that there was just one chain smoker in this group of family and friends who not only smoked cigarettes but also did drugs. That person was none other than Anita.
