Guruji arrived at the Kothari Mansion. The lawn was arranged with the finest decoration. Apart from the Kothari Family and very few members of the Verma Family, there were no other guests. The Kothari Family wanted to keep the engagement a low key affair.
Anurag stood at one corner looking at the doorway to see if Mushtaque had come. Sumitra came near Anurag, beamed and said, ‘So, finally my baby is getting engaged officially. I am so happy.’ Anurag faked a smile and said nothing. Rajesh Verma was happily chatting away with Sumedh and Subhash. Naina, Tripti and Urmi were immensely happy. Embellished with grandiose jewellery, lavish sarees and gorgeous make up, the ladies were glowing in happiness and beauty. They knew that Tanaya would bring with her costly gifts along with an upscale car and grand plush house. And this was just engagement. Imagine what would the wedding be. Anurag refused to accept the car and the house. But, Rajesh Verma insisted. Tanaya told Anurag that after the engagement she would love to roam around in that car and spend some quality time with Anurag in that luxurious house and hence that car and the house was Tanaya’s need and Anurag will have to accept it.
Abhay reached Kaamini’s village and went to the address sent by Mushtaque. The house was bolted. Abhay asked the neighbours. The neighbours said that Kaamini had not come there neither did Kashish. When Mushtaque received the information from Abhay, he had no clue how he could find Kaamini now. However, there was one link. Sumitra. Sumitra was in touch with Kaamini till Kaamini left. So if anyone could give any information about Kaamini, it was Sumitra. Mushtaque then thought, Sumitra and Guruji were in touch constantly. Well, maybe be for rituals and stuff. But then, why was that other person constantly in touch then. Something was not right. Mushtaque called Sofia and said, ‘Sofia, I am sending you an address. Be there as soon as possible. Abhay will also join after he finishes the task I gave.’
Just then Mushtaque received a call from the police officer who was asked to get Lata’s allergy medicine tested. The officer said, ‘The allergy medicine was mixed with enough allergen to cause severe allergy in the body. I will send the reports to you. Please check the details.’
Mushtaque was not answering Anurag’s call. Anurag waited for Mushtaque. Guruji arrived. Everyone went to greet him. However, Anurag kept on looking at his phone. He looked at Kashish’s number. He tried calling the number again. It was switched off. Anurag recalled the moments when Kashish was around. She would quietly work and then go to her classes. Since childhood, Kashish had been serious about her studies. She was someone who was always bubbly and full of life. Kashish was around 9 years younger to Anurag. Sumitra had taught Kashish to address Anurag and Aavish as ‘Sir’. Lata loved Kashish because of Kashish’s kind, polite and amiable nature. Kashish would see Aanya, Saanya and Dviti in expensive clothes and luxurious stuff, but Kashish would never compare nor would feel bad about it nor would ask for anything. As time passed, Kashish grew into a pleasant girl who was adept in handling responsibilities, managing the huge household, her academics and yet she never complained. She was never rude to anyone, not even to Kaamini. Anurag realised he used to get upset when someone scolded Kashish and hence he used to hate Kaamini. Anurag did not like Sanmit as well because Sanmit troubled Kashish a lot. While Anurag was lost in all these thoughts, he realised everyone was busy applauding and looking at Tanaya. Tanaya had come downstairs. She looked jaw dropping gorgeous. Saanya came near Anurag, nudged his arm and said, ‘Look at Tanaya……she looks so pretty.’ Anurag smiled and said nonchalantly, ‘Yeah.’
Guruji then announced that in 5 minutes, the right time for the ring ceremony would begin. Anurag looked around. Mushtaque was not there as yet. Sumitra came with the ring for Tanaya and stood beside Anurag with a broad smile. Saanya stood beside Tanaya with the ring for Anurag. Sumitra gave Anurag the ring. Anurag took the ring and was about to slip it on Tanaya’s ring finger, when he noticed something. This was not the ring he had touched the other day when Sumitra had asked him to touch it. He kept on gazing at the ring perplexed when Sumitra said, ‘What are you looking at Anurag? Hurry up! Tanaya is waiting.’ Anurag reluctantly put the ring on Tanaya’s finger. Tanaya then happily put the ring on Anurag’s ring finger. The engagement was done. Tanaya’s joy knew no bounds. Champagne glasses clinked, everyone clapped, music started. Tanaya hugged Anurag tight and jumped in joy.
Sumptuous dinner, captivating cocktails, soothing music, you name it, the party had everything. Everyone was delighted with the grandiose arrangement. Anurag stepped out of the crowd and went near the gate. Just then Mushtaque came. Seeing Mushtaque, Anurag said concerned, ‘Where were you? I was worried.’ Mushtaque said, ‘Well, there are more things to be worried about my friend.’ Anurag looked at Mushtaque and asked skeptically, ‘ What are you talking about?’ Mushtaque said, ‘Your grandma did not die an accidental death. She was murdered.’ Anurag gasped. Anurag asked, ‘How can you be so sure?’ Mushtaque said, ‘I have evidence. Her medicine was mixed with allergens that triggered her allergy. Now you have to tell me, who usually gives her medicine at night?’ Anurag froze. He knew who used to give medicine to Lata. Anurag stammered and said, ‘It’s…..M….Maa. She…. she gives grandma medicines.’ Anurag brushed his head in dismay, with eyes blood shot red. Mushtaque patted Anurag’s shoulder and said, ‘Kaamini and Kashish are not in their village and Kaamini spoke to your mom.’ Anurag looked at Mushtaque wide eyed. ‘First the ring and now all this. What was his mom planning and why? Did she poison grandma. Where is Kashish? Is she okay?’ Mushtaque then told Anurag, ‘Something is fishy. There are two more people who are connected. I will solve this. But, at this point, all we need to know is where is Kaamini because only she can tell us where Kashish is. You have to talk to you Mom. But, it has to be only you and your mom. No one should hear your conversation.’
After the party was over, Anurag went to Sumitra’s room. Sumedh was still boozing with his brothers in the lawn. Seeing Anurag, Sumitra beamed and said, ‘Come Son. Wasn’t it a lovely evening?’ Anurag asked curtly, ‘Where is Kaamini and Kashish, Maa?’ Sumitra was startled. She stammered and said, ‘In….in their village son.’ Anurag came closer, held his mom’s shoulder and asked sternly, ‘Where are they?’ Sumitra was shocked. She had never seen Anurag so angry. She stuttered and said, ‘ Wh….why are you asking me this?’ Trying to calm himself, Anurag said, ‘The ring which you gave me today for Tanaya was not the ring I had touched the other day. You had told me that ring was for this ring ceremony. Then why didn’t you give me that ring?’ Sumitra froze. Anurag said, ‘Maa, tell me where is Kaamini or I will break this engagement right away.’ Sumitra sat on the bed in a daze and said, ‘She is in Ashanagar.’ Anurag was shivering with rage. Still, he tried not to break down. He then said, ‘Give me the entire address.’ Seeing her son fuming, Sumitra was stupefied. She gave Anurag the address. Anurag immediately texted the address to Mushtaque. Anurag then looked at his mother with cold eyes and said, ‘You gave the allergy medicine to grandma the night when she passed away. Didn’t you?’ Sumitra said earnestly, ‘No Son, I was on my way, to give her the medicine but when I had gone to the room, she was fast asleep already. Someone else had already given her the medicine. Hence I came back. I never knew I wouldn’t see her the next morning.’ Saying that, Sumitra broke down.
Guruji reached his abode and called his disciple and said, ‘Get her ready. She has already been declared dead. After this beautiful night, tomorrow morning, we can bury her in the sprawling backyard and plant a sapling there.’
Kashish sat in one corner touching her Mangalsutra. She lost her parents, she was married to someone she did not know and now either she will be killed or she will be raped or both. Kashish looked around. No, she would not let anybody touch her. It was better to die than get raped. There was piece of glass in the corner of the room. Kashish smiled to herself.
