Sumitra came to Lata’s room with a plate of fruits. Lata was reading a book while sitting comfortably in the armchair. Seeing Sumitra, Lata took off her reading glasses and kept them aside. Sumitra fixed her veil and gave Lata the plate of fruits and sat on the bed beside the Arm chair and said, ‘Did you speak with Lakshya Guruji?’ Sumitra nodded and said, ‘Yes. I did. He has called us to his ashram today evening at 5:00 p.m. Be ready. You and I will go.’ Sumitra then said, ‘Just us? Shouldn’t we take Anurag’s father and Mr. Rajesh Verma with us?’ Lata said, ‘Not now. First we need to know what Guruji wants to tell us. We can then inform Sumedh and Mr. Verma.’ Sumitra nodded and said, ‘Okay. I will be ready.’

Kashish was getting ready when Kaamini said, ‘When will you finish your studies?’ While combing her hair, Kashish said, ‘One more year aunty.’ Kaamini shrieked, ‘One more year! My God! Leave your studies. I will get you married. I can’t stay here like a security guard for one more year.’ Kaamini lived with Kashish because she did not have a choice. She wanted Kashish to get married soon so that Kaamini could go back to her village. Kashish was always a burden for her. Kashish knew that there was no point arguing with this lady and Kashish also knew that she did not have any other relative in this world other than Kaamini. So, no matter what Kaamini said, Kashish was never rude to her. Ignoring what Kaamini said, Kashish replied, ‘Aunty, I will complete my post graduation no matter what. Only then I will be able to get a good job. Kaamini replied curtly, ‘You are just a servant’s daughter in this house. Don’t keep your hopes high. Get married. My neighbor’s son in the village wants to marry you. Kashish said, ‘That good for nothing guy who does nothing?’ Kaamini replied enraged, ‘So what? His father earns enough for the entire family. He is the only son among 6 daughters. They have a two bedroom house, two cows, land, what else do you need?’ Kashish replied solemnly, ‘That guy is a drunkard, he dropped out from school. How can I be happy with him aunty?’ Kaamini said sternly, ‘See, I am your guardian. I will decide what to do.’ Kashish sighed and said, ‘We will talk about this later. I am getting late for class now.’

Kashish rushed out of Kothari Mansion. She was already late. She was walking to the bus stop when she heard a car honking behind her. It was Sanmit in his BMW 2 series. He stopped the car and told Kashish, ‘Come, hop in, I will drop you.’ Kashish hesitated and said, ‘N…no the bus is here, I will manage.’ Before Sanmit could say anything Kashish paced fast to the bus stop. Sanmit had tried to be intimate with Kashish many times in the mansion. Going to college with him only meant he would try to touch her. Kashish detested that. She also knew that Sanmit’s mother Naina hated her. All Kashish wanted was to get a decent job somewhere so that she could have a house of her own and can pay her own bills. She is grateful and thankful to her ‘Lata Daadimaa’, who always supported her education. After she ran to the bus stop, Sanmit smirked and told himself, ‘How long will you escape from me?’. Sanmit then texted his girlfriend, ‘Sweetheart, see you in half an hour.’

Back in office, Anurag was stressed. Sitting on the revolving chair and massaging his forehead, he told Aavish, ‘What are we going to do now? The consignment is delayed. What do we tell Derek?’ Aavish was short tempered. He banged the desk with his fist and said, ‘Let’s cancel the contract with Neev associates. Bloody Scamsters! We trusted them and they did this to us!’ Anurag stood up, poured some water in a glass, gave it to Aavish and said, ‘Here, drink some water, and listen to me.’ Aavish took the glass of water and gulped all of it at one go and said, ‘I can’t keep calm. I am not you.’ Anurag patted Aavish’s shoulder and said, ‘You don’t have to be me. But, at this point, we need to figure out a solution.’ Aavish replied, ‘And there is no solution.’ Just then someone knocked at the door and came in. It was Tanaya. Dressed in a knee length purple chiffon dress with a pair of sleek stilettos embracing her feet, trendy diamond earrings on her earlobes, nude lipstick on her ravishing dusky complexion and her wavy shoulder length hair, Tanaya looked jaw dropping gorgeous. Seeing her, Aavish greeted, ‘Heya Tanaya!’ Tanaya hugged Aavish and said, ‘Hello Aavish.’ She then went on to hug Anurag and said, ‘So you don’t have time for me. Do you?’ Anurag smiled and said, ‘Nothing like that Tanaya.’ Aavish interrupted Tanaya and Anurag and said, ‘I think I will step out for sometime. I have some work. You guys talk.’

After Aavish left, Tanaya wrapped her hands around Anurag’s shoulders and said, ‘So, what is troubling my baby?’ Anurag smiled, gently moved out of Tanaya’s grip, sat on the revolving chair and said, ‘Neev Associates could not send our consignment on time. What do we tell Derek?’ Tanaya came closer to Anurag, sat on his lap, brushed his hair and then gently swayed her index finger on his forehead right down to his cheek and said, ‘Sue Neev Associates. I will ask my dad to talk to Derek. After all Dad has a major stake in Derek’s firm.’ Anurag smiled and said, ‘Thank you Tanaya. Means a lot.’ Tanaya went closer to Anurag and said, ‘Just thank you?’ Anurag pushed Tanaya away softly and said, ‘ Well, at this point, yes. Just thank you.’ Tanaya said flirtatiously, ‘But after our wedding, my lips will be stuck on your lips.’ Anurag laughed and said, ‘We will see about that. Now can you please help me sort this problem? I will be grateful.’ Tanaya smiled and said, ‘Chill! I don’t like my baby to be stressed. Derek won’t trouble you. But now, you have to come with me for lunch. And yes, you do look dapper in those formal trousers and blue shirt. Love you so much Anurag.’

…………………………………………………………………………………….

Lata and Sumitra reached Guruji’s abode. The ashram was immensely serene. Two disciples escorted Lata and Sumitra to Guruji’s counselling room. The place was spotless and peaceful. Guruji sat on a platform. There was pin drop silence. Lata and Sumitra sat in front of him with folded hands. Lata said, ‘What should we do Guruji? We cannot keep Tanaya waiting for long.’ Guruji replied, ‘I have only one solution to this problem.’ Sumitra asked eagerly, ‘What Guruji?’ Guruji replied calmly, ‘You have to get Anurag married to some other girl first.’ Sumitra replied with a shocking note, ‘What? How is that possible? I mean how can we do that? Rajesh Verma will sue Sumedh and how can Anurag marry twice?’ Lata held Sumitra’s hand and squeezed it gently and said, ‘Let Guruji complete what he has to say.’ Lata then looked at Guruji and said, ‘Tell us Guruji. What should we do?’ Guruji smiled and said, ‘We must get Anurag married to another girl first. According to the ‘dosh(fault)’ in his horoscope, his first wife will die very soon. This way his ‘dosh’ will diminish. He can then marry Tanaya and live a happy life.’ Sumitra said, ‘Anurag will never agree to this. He does not even believe in astrology. How will we make him do this?’ Guruji smiled and said, ‘Anurag need not know anything about it. All we would need is a picture of his to solemnize the marriage and a girl.’ Sumitra looked puzzled and said, ‘Which girl will ever agree to such a marriage?’ Guruji said somberly, ‘There is no dearth of poor people in this world. Offer someone a good amount of money and don’t tell anyone about the ‘death’ part. After all, it will just be a ritual with Anurag’s picture. No paper work, no witness, nothing. And after the wedding, ensure she stays in my Ashram. As per my calculation, within a month or so she will be no more and that’s it. Her family will be quiet because of the money. That’s all. Anurag and Tanaya then stay happily ever after. And all your debts would be taken care of by Rajesh Verma.’
